Rafa Nadal denied the British No1 the chance to make history with an astonishing 5-7 6-2 6-2 6-4 win. Murray won the first set against the Spanish superstar and had one eye on Sunday's final.
But from then on in Nadal took control and crushed his pal with a ruthless display.
The second set went by in the blink of an eye as Nadal — soon to be deposed as world No1 by Novak Djokovic — stepped up the gears.
Surrey-based Scot Murray had no answer to the Spaniard's staggering display of power.
The third set was almost a carbon copy of the second as Murray was blown away by the Nadal hurricane.
And even though he put up a better show in the last — earning, yet losing a break point — it was all over as Nadal saw it home.
The reigning champion will now face Djokovic in Sunday's showpiece final.
And for Murray it's back to the drawing board in his quest to win an elusive first Grand Slam.
