Goodluck Jonathan Commissioned Almajiri Model Schools in Sokoto

Today, in Sokoto, Sokoto State, I commissioned the first of several Federal Government Model Almajiri Schools for itinerant scholars commonly referred to as Almajiri. This is in fulfillment of the promises I made on this page in a note titled 'Fighting Insecurity With Education' on the 15th of November 2010.

New NYSC posting Policy- Rural, Education and Agriculture

In a new policy thrust, the federal government said today that National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) postings will now be in the sectors of Rural Health, Primary and Secondary Education; Rural Infrastructural Development; and Agricultural Development.

8,159 students Graduated from Unilag Today

A total of 8,159 students graduated from the University of Lagos today. Out of the total number, 4,375 received first degrees while 3,784 received post graduate degrees. Of the first degree graduating students, 122 passed in first class division, with the Faculty of Engineering topping the list. The best graduating student is Edo State-born Akhigbe Iziren. He studied Engineering.

ASUU Strike likely to be called off on Monday

The Minister of Education, Professor Ruqquayatu Ahmed Rufa’i has assured that the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) would before long call off its strike, with the passage of the bill on the retirement age of professors from 65 years to 70 years.

The Orientation camp of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Fika Local Government area of Yobe State has been burnt by unknown persons suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect.
