The Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has suspended Malam Bala Abubakar, the head teacher of Kuka Primary School in the state capital.
A statement by the board’s Deputy Director, Public Relations Amina Umar said that the suspension order, which takes immediate effect, was directed by SUBEB’s Executive Chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Adamu.
The statement which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano, Friday, said the headmaster was suspended for illegally collecting N50 from each pupil for feeding in the school.
It said the chairman had decried the head teacher’s act, pointing out that it violated the law and policy that established the UBE.
The chairman, therefore, warned that any head teacher “found defaulting the law shall be dealt with appropriately,” the statement further said.
It added that the suspended head teacher had been ordered to report to the acting Education Secretary in Fage Local Education Authority for further directives.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the suspension of the head teacher came in the wake of the re-introduction of free feeding and free uniforms for primary school pupils by the new administration of Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
