Shamed football chief Jack Warner - who helped scupper England's 2018 World Cup bid - quit in a bribes scandal yesterday. The FIFA fatcat vice-president had already been suspended after a probe.But Warner, 68, will escape further action over claims wads of cash were handed out in a failed bid to get Qatar's Mohamed Bin Hamman elected FIFA president.
In the run-up to the 2018 vote the two-faced Trinidadian put his arm around Prince William and told him he could be relied on in the contest. Then Warner voted for Russia - whose bid won.
FIFA said Warner was leaving "by his own volition". A spokesman said: "All ethics committee procedures against him have been closed and the presumption of innocence is maintained."
FIFA president Sepp Blatter praised high-living Warner for "many years devoted to football".
