As the anti-fuel subsidy removal entered its fifth day on Friday and in spite of the intensity of security around government buildings and other strategic places, some youths alleged to be members of opposition parties in Sokoto State took advantage of the protest to raze the Independent National Electoral Commission’s, INEC, office in Bodinga, the headquarters of Bodinga local government area.
When Sunday Vanguard visited Bodinga, about twenty kilometers from Sokoto metropolis around 4 p.m. on Friday, the INEC office was still in flames while some shops close to the office at the junction of Danchadi village road had caught fire.Bodinga local government council chairman, Alhaji Buda Badau, condemned the attack, but said that calm had been restored in the town “following the deployment of policemen to safeguard lives and property while some were patrolling the town.”
Sokoto State police commissioner, Alhaji Baba Adisa Bolanta, confirmed the incident, saying investigation was still on to unravel the perpetrators.
Also, the INEC public relations officer in Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Musa, in a telephone conversation, said “All vital documents, electronics, printers, office furniture, batteries and generators were destroyed by the fire.”
