A rumour that spread across the length and breadth of Ibadan metropolis, Tuesday, that a bomb planted by unknown person could explode anytime resulted in a stampede at the Iwo Road interchange, the
notorious place where members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state unleashed terror on some innocent people two weeks ago.As soon as people got the wind of the rumour, they hurriedly fled the area. Traders, commuters and others who transact one business or the other closed their shops and fled for dear lives.
According to a source, nothing should be taken for granted at all especially when it was still fresh in the minds of people how members of the NURTW killed and maimed innocent commuters at the same place.
The rumour compelled the Oyo State Police Command to dispatch its men to the troubled spot so as to nip any crisis in the bud.
Though, the police could not substantiate the veracity of the rumour, they still thought it wise to be there so that nothing would go amiss.
The Deputy Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Okanlawon, confirmed that the command had received the rumour and that was why it had to dispatch its men to the scene. But, on getting there, there was no bomb and the place was peaceful.
