Ajimobi Bans NURTW in Ibadan

Following the incessant killings and destruction of lives and property occasioned by violent clashes between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ibadan, Governor Abiola Ajimobi
has banned all activities of the union.
He said this, just as another clash reportedly broke out between the rival factions,  Monday, at the time Governor Ajimobi was having a meeting with  security agencies on the crises.
Though, eye witnesses accounts  said that factions were seen engaging one another at Iwo road motor park,  using dangerous weapons, but the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Baba Adisa Bolanta denied  the report of any fresh attack  at the said motor park.
Apart from banning the union, the governor also gave orders to security agencies to go round the motor parks and dislodge all NURTW members.
The governor, after the end of the meeting read a communiqué and said the unpleasant crises that resulted in the death of many people called for the review of security situation in the state.
According to Ajimobi , “Security agencies have been directed to arrest all the perpetrators of the crimes leading directly or indirectly to the recent mayhem in the state and recover all illegal arms and ammunition.  Government hereby bans all NURTW activities at the motor parks pending the investigation of the mayhem and prosecution of all the culprits which should be done immediately”.
He said the activities of the union posed a great risk adding that politicization of the activities of the union, attempting to control revenue, access to arms and ammunition, abuse of court processes were the major causes of the crisis.
