In fulfillment of his pledge to the families of the 10 corps members killed during the post-election violence in Bauchi State, the state government, on Wednesday, handed over N20 million to the
management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for subsequent delivery to the families of the fallen heroes. The Bauchi State government also awarded scholarship up to the university level to two persons from each of the family of the deceased and would sponsor three persons per family to either Jerusalem or Mecca on holy pilgrimage.
Documents for the pilgrimage and the scholarship were handed to the families of the deceased corps members.
Also, the management of the NYSC gave out N1 million each to the families of the slain corps members as a gratuity.
At a ceremony at the NYSC national headquarters, the Director-General, Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, assured the families that the Federal Government was determined to fish out the perpetrators of what he called dastardly act for appropriate punishment as a deterrent to others.
He commended the commitment of the slain corps members, believing that the token from the Bauchi State government was a way of sharing in the grief of the bereaved families.
Tsiga, who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Chief Mike Ejoh, paid glowing tributes to the slain corps members, praising their patriotism and sense of duty.
He expressed regrets that the NYSC and the entire nation would continue to miss their diligent contributions to the national development.-Tribune
