Not less than 21 petitions have been recieved by the Bayelsa State Election Petition Tribunal from various candidates who lost at the April polls in the state.
Secretary of the Tribunal, Mrs. Cecelia Adedeji, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday in Yenagoa that all the petitions were being compiled, preparatory to the commencement of the panel’s sitting.
“We have so far received 21 petitions from both the State and National Assemblies elections. Presently, the petitions are being filed, after which we expect to receive replies from the parties concerned.
“Then, after the replies, we will have the plenary session, after which the tribunal will commence sitting,” she said.
According to Adedeji, the tribunal is fully prepared to hear the petitions, adding that its members will discharge their duties with justice and fairness.
In one of the Senatorial election petitions, an oil magnate, Chief Pere Ajuwa of the ANPP is seeking to invalidate the election of Sen. Emmanuel Paulker of the PDP for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District.
