Nigeria immigration; How to apply for Nigeria Passport

General Procedures for Passport Application:

  1. Visit the Home page of Nigeria Immigration Portal at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/index.php/pages/passportguidelines
  2. Locate & click on the appropriate application form to start the process:
    • e-Passport Application Form
    • MRP - Passport Application Form (Not Applicable In All Missions)
  3. Select a passport type “Standard e-Passport” OR “Official e-Passport”, then click on ‘Start Application’ button.
  4. Fill the Application form; check the 'I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS FORM' check box then click the 'PRINT' Button to print filled form.
  5. Click on 'Submit Application' button to view ‘Applicant details page’
  6. Click on “Proceed to Online Payment”
  7. Click to select Payment Currency “Pay in Naira” or “Pay in Dollars” option then Click on ‘Continue’ button
  8. Choose the currency you want to use for payment (Naira or US Dollars):
    1. If you selected option to pay in Naira, you will be prompted to select PayType (payment method): “Bank”, “eWallet” or “Credit OR Debit card”,
      1. If you intend to pay at a bank, selected “Bank” and click continue,
        1. View the list of participating banks and then click on ‘Continue’.
        2. The “Print Acknowledgment” button will help you print “Payment Acknowledgment Slip” with Transaction ID, Application ID & Reference Number.
        3. With the copy of your Payment acknowledgement slip, proceed to a participating bank for payment.
        4. On making payment at the bank, you MUST be issued with a Pay4Me ‘e-receipt’ that contains a “Validation Number”. You will need the “Validation Number” for confirmation of payment on the portal. (For use of your Validation Number, see the section on Validation Number below)
      2. If you have a funded ewallet account and intend to pay through this account, select “eWallet”,
        1. You will be required to fill in your eWallet log-in credentials. If you are not registered as a user, go to “Register for eWallet”.
        2. After filling in, click “Login” button and you will be sent to the payment portal
        3. For proceeding with the payment click the “PAY” button. The payment will be successful only if your account balance covers the total payable amount.
        4. After payment, the “Validation Number” is generated. Store it and use it to confirm the payment.
        5. You can also print a receipt by clicking the “Print the Receipt” button.
      3. If you intend to pay through Credit/Debit card, select “Credit/Debit card” and click continue,
        1. You will be required to fill in your eWallet log-in credentials. If you are not registered as a user, go to “Register for eWallet”.
        2. After filling in, click “Login” button and you will be sent to the payment portal
        3. For proceeding with the payment click the “PAY” button.
        4. Payment portal display application details, click on “Continue” button.
        5. You will be prompted to “Value Card” payment page, provide information of your card & Click on “OK” button
        6. After payment, the “Validation Number” is generated. Store it and use it to confirm the payment.
        7. You can also print a receipt by clicking the “Print the Receipt” button.

      Using your Validation Number

      After payment, having obtained the “Validation Number”, proceed to the NIS portal for confirmation of payment:
      1. Go to the “Query your Application Payment Status” and enter your Passport Application ID and Reference No.
      2. Selecting “Pay4Me”, a field will appear to be filled with the “Validation Number” from your e-receipt. Remember: Validation Number has been generated after payment through Bank also.
      3. Click the “Search Record” button and you will be sent to the “Applicant’s Details” page where a date for your interview has been generated.
      4. You can now print a Receipt or an Acknowledgement Slip by using the buttons on this page. (You will need them for your interview).
      5. You will be presented with your NIS e-receipt or Acknowledgement Slip in a new window. Click on ‘Print” button to send a copy to the printer.

      For SW Global LLC Payment

      1. If you are paying through dollar and you selected a processing country other than Nigeria. You'll be presented with an Application Cart where you can add a number of applications before making the final payment.
      2. You can add new applications by selecting 'Add New Application' button or add an existing application by clicking 'Add Existing Application' into the cart.
      3. If you are adding existing application to the current cart, it will be removed from the cart it was attached to and will be added to the current application cart.

      5. Once you are done with adding all the application to the cart. Please proceed to payment by clicking 'Continue for payment' button and then select 'Start Payments'
      6. Portal will ask you to review your cart before proceeding to make payment.
      7. You can edit your cart by selecting Edit Cart at the bottom of the cart details table or you can continue with the payment by selecting SW Global LLC checkout button.
      8. Click on ‘SW Global LLC’ button to display Order details
      9. You will be prompted to select Log In to SW Global LLC using: “Google-OpenId”“Yahoo-OpenId” and“SW Global LLC-OpenId” Account
      10. If you intend to login by “Google-OpenId” Account click “Google” button,
        1. Create a Google Account to Continue or Sign in with a Valid ‘Email Id & Password’
        2. Privacy page will be shown up, which will ask you to allow SW Global LLC to access your account information
        3. Click on Allow button
        4. You will be redirected to SW Global LLC
        5. Provide Contact Address and Mobile number and Click on ‘Submit’ button
        6. For making payment please provide Billing Information(Exact as mentioned to Card statement) and Card Information and Click on ‘Make Payment’ button
        7. Displays message “Thanks < Your Names >, you’re done! Your order has been sent.”
      11. If you intend to login by “Yahoo-OpenId” Account click “Yahoo” button,
        1. Create a Yahoo Account to Continue or Sign in with a Valid ‘Email Id & Password’
        2. Privacy page will be shown up, which will ask you to allow SW Global LLC to access your account information
        3. Click on Agree button
        4. You will be redirected to SW Global LLC
        5. Provide Contact Address and Mobile number and Click on ‘Submit’ button
        6. For making payment please provide Billing Information(Exact as mentioned to Card statement) and Card Information and Click on ‘Make Payment’ button
        7. Displays message “Thanks < Your Names >, you’re done! Your order has been sent.”
      12. If you intend to login by “SW Global LLC openID” Account click “SW Global LLC openID” button,
        1. Create a SW Global LLC-OpenId Account to Continue or Sign in with a Valid ‘Username & Password’
        2. Steps to create new SW Global LLC-OpenId account
           
          • Click on ‘Register Now’
          • Provide Details and Click on ‘Submit’ button
          • Confirmation mail has been sent to your Email id
          • To activate your Account Click on activation link provided in your Email id
          • You will be prompted back to SW Global LLC
          • Click on “I AGREE” Button
          • To continue with the payment, Please go to the window on which you have clicked on ‘Register Now’ link
          • Please Enter your Username & password and Click on ‘Login’ button
        3. Provide Contact Address and Mobile number and Click on ‘Submit’ button
        4. For making payment please provide Billing Information(Exact as mentioned to Card statement) and Card Information and Click on ‘Make Payment’ button
        5. Displays message “Thanks < Your Names >, you’re done! Your order has been sent.”
  9. On confirmation of payment, proceed for Interview with relevant documents. Please, note that your interview schedule, final e-receipt and acknowledgment slip are only accessible using your Validation Number.
  10. To print your NIS e-Receipt
    1. On the portal home page, click on the ‘Query your application payment status’ link
    2. At the next page, select ‘Passport’ as an option under the ‘Application Type’ drop down
    3. Enter the following details:
      • Application ID
      • Reference Number
      • Validation Number (if payment was done by Pay4Me)
    4. Submit the details
    5. Your full application details shall be returned
    6. Scroll down the page and click on ‘Print receipt’
    7. You will be presented with your NIS e-receipt in a new window
    8. Click on ‘Print this receipt’ to send a copy to the printer
  11. To generate your Passport Guarantor's Form
    1. Click on passport guarantor’s form at the home page of the Nigeria Immigration Service
    2. Enter reference and id number generated on the acknowledgment slip
    3. Clicks print to print out first page and next to print out second page (You will still be required to click the Print button)

General Documents required for interview:

Standard Passport

  1. Local Government letter of identification.
  2. Birth certificate / age declaration.
  3. 2 recent colour passport photographs
  4. Guarantor's form sworn to before a commissioner of Oaths / Magistrate /  High Court Judge
  5. Parents' letter of consent for minors under 16 years
  6. Marriage certificate where applicable
  7. Police report incase of lost passport
  8. Submit application with supporting documents to passport office / Embassy / High commission

Official Passport

  1. Letter of introduction from appropriate State Government, Federal Government Ministry / Organization.
  2. Marriage certificate where applicable
  3. Police report in case of lost passport
  4. Letter of appointment / last promotion .
  5. Submit application with supporting documents to passport office / Embassy / High commission

Seamans Book Requirement

  1. Local Government letter of identification 
  2. Birth certificate / age declaration 
  3. 2 recent colour passport photographs 
  4. Submit application with supporting documents to passport office / Embassy / High commission 
Note:
  • Acknowledgment slip & payment receipt plus 2 recent photographs are applicable in all cases
  • Print out copy of duly completed application form
  • Take printed and signed application forms to Passport office / Embassy / High Commission for further processing
  • A guarantor must attach the following documents
    1. Photocopy of Data page of Nigerian standard Passport
    2. Driving License or National Identity Card
