The two-week battle between two factions of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW) reached a climax on Wednesday as nine people reportedly lost their lives while several others sustained injuries.
Daily Times learnt that the violence was perpetrated by loyalist of the two contenders for the chairmanship position in the Union.Eyewitnesses say the thugs, who used sophisticated weapons, shot indiscriminately at each other.
A reliable source revealed that there had been a leadership tussle in the union between the chairman of Isale-Eko and the chairman of Onala in Adeniji-Adele .
The violence affected various market areas in Lagos Island, including Idumota, Oyebanji, Idumagbo,Tom Jone, Adeniji-Adele.
