Two JAMB students arraigned in Court

Two candidates who sat for the last Saturday’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were, on Wednesday, arraigned before
an Osogbo Magistrate’s court over alleged examination malpractices.
The two accused, Onabanjo Bosede (27) and Adebayo Adekunle (17), were caught by men of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Osun State police command at one of the centres at Okuku, headquarters of Odo-Otin Local Government Area, at about 12.45 p.m., while attempting to cheat during the examination.
According to the prosecution, Bosede and Adekunle conspired together to perpetrate examination malpractice during the UTME examination.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Benjamin Akindoyin, told the court that the two accused persons were unlawfully in possession of one copy of answer sheet with intent to cheat during the examination.
The offence, the prosecution alleged, was contrary to and punishable under section 1 (16)(B) of the miscellaneous offences Act, Cap M17, volume 9, Laws of Nigeria 2004.
The two accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them.
Defence counsel, Mr Seye Oluyombo, prayed the court to grant the two accused bail and promised the court that they would provide reliable sureties.
However, Inspector Akindoyin did not oppose the bail application for the two accused persons.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted each of the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties each in the like sum and affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned till August 17, 2011, for mention.-Tribune
