Nasri more important than Fabregas

Former Arsenal winger, Perry Groves, believes that Gunners manager, Arsene Wegner, should ensure two things in the summer transfer window: the signing of a proven central defender, and the continued

presence of Samir Nasri at the Emirates Stadium.

Groves believes that Nasri is more important to the club than Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard has recently been linked with a move to his boyhood club, Barcelona. Though Fabregas has now insisted that he is happy being an Arsenal player, he did not hide his frustration at the lack of trophies he has won at the Emirates Stadium. There is speculation that the 24-year-old only made the recent statements since Arsene Wenger is blocking his transfer to Spain.

However, Groves claims that if Fabregas really does want to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window, he should be allowed to go. The former winger said, “If Cesc Fabregas wants to go, I’ve said before I would actually let him go. He has to be 100 percent committed to Arsenal Football Club. If he wants to stay then brilliant, he’s a fantastic player, but we’ve had this for the last three seasons now like we had with Thierry Henry. If he wants to go then get the £50million in for him and that will help you invest in the playing side of it.”

One player that Groves deems necessary to Arsenal’s cause is Samir Nasri. The Frenchman has been a revelation in recently concluded 2010/11 Barclays Premier League campaign. Groves sees Nasri as a vital part of Arsene Wenger’s plans for the future, and has placed his talents up there with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s shining star, Gareth Bale.

Perry Groves went on to add that the Gunners should sign a proven central defender on an urgent basis to counter their weakness at the back. Speaking on the matter, he said, “You’ve got Christopher Samba at Blackburn, Phil Jagielka at Everton, Roger Johnson who’s going to be available at Birmingham and Gary Cahill at Bolton. I’d be very happy with any one of those centre-halves because they are the old dominant-type centre-halves. That’s what we’ve been missing.”-NAN
