The Ekiti State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has commenced online registration of driver’s licence in the state.
Mr Francis Udoma, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, made the disclosure in an interview in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
He stated that registration and renewal of driver’s licences were on in all the 16 local government areas in the state.
He expressed dismay that more than 1,000 driver’s licences had been abandoned by their owners at various offices of the state’s Board of Internal Revenue, advising the owners of the licences to go and collect them.
“The corps has put in place a durable national driver’s licence. We have commenced online registration and renewal of driver’s licence in Ekiti State.
“All that is required is a permanent address. Besides, one can stay in any part of the world and apply online for renewal.
“The renewal will be done and sent to the permanent contact address.
“People can also check the FRSC website to confirm if their licence is genuine or fake. It is aimed at curbing the activities of touts.
“When you apply for renewal, a temporary licence that you can use for two months will be immediately printed by the staff officer of the information processing section of the corps.
“Since the online registration and renewal started, all the applicants are enjoying the services, especially in Ekiti State,” Udoma stated.
He explained that the previous type of national driver’s licence would expire between 2013 and 2014.
The FRSC boss warned that violators of the national driver’s licence would have their vehicles impounded and fined N10, 000 before their vehicle would be released.
“The attitude of our people is that when they apply for national driver’s licence registration and renewal, they do not go back to collect them,” Udoma noted. --NAN
