Gazidis was speaking at a stormy meeting with the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust at the Emirates as fans vented their frustration after a sixth successive season without a trophy.
That, combined with a 6.5 per cent increase in season-ticket prices and the sale of the club to Stan Kroenke, led to a tough ride for Gazidis at last night’s question and answer session with more than 200 fans.
And while Gazidis was reluctant to discuss the potential departures of Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy, he did say that Wenger retained the full support of the club.
The Frenchman has come in for the most sustained criticism of his 15-year spell in charge, but Gazidis instead praised him for guiding the club through their move from Highbury to the Emirates.
And the chief executive attempted to justify the season-ticket increases, with some supporters left unimpressed by his statement that an increase in utility bills at the 60,000-seat stadium was partly to blame. But Gazidis left no doubt that unless the fans turned on him in numbers then Wenger’s job was safe.(Telegraph)
