Labour Party of Nigeria (LP) to challenge election results in five states

The Labour Party, LP, has vowed to challenge the results of the just-concluded general elections, particularly that of governorship and National/State House of Assemblies in Plateau, Abia, Enugu, Taraba and Gombe states.

National Chairman of the Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, who disclosed this during an interview with newsmen said the party had already filed petitions at the tribunal in Lagos challenging the election of wife of former Lagos State governor, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, as a senator
Chief Nwayanwu alleged a deliberate shortchange of its candidate for Lagos Central senatorial district, Durosimi Etti, with the exclusion of the party’s logo in the ballot paper.
Lamenting that the party and its candidates were schemed out of the election by agents of the state governments, in connivance with Independent National Commission, INEC, officials, the LP alleged that in the Lagos Central senatorial district, powerful Lagos politicians in connivance with INEC officials, had initially withdrawn the name of its party’s candidate from the commission’s list but got wind of it and fought hard to have it replaced.
He said having failed to prevent Durosimi Etti from contesting, they devised another means and ensured that the party’s logo was excluded from the ballot, adding that the case had already been filed at a Lagos court.
In Plateau State, LP alleged multiple thumb-printing of ballot papers by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with active participation and protection by security agents, adding that there were also cases of underage voting which were even reported in the media.
The same scenario, according to Chief Nwayanwu, played out in Abia State governorship, national and State Assembly elections where there were illegal thumb-printing of ballot papers by agents of PDP and government officials.
He stated that fake members of the National Youth Service Commission, NYSC, were also caught in the state while elections were going on, saying there was no way the election of the PDP candidates could stand in view of the overwhelming evidence of illegality perpetrated by the party.
