Jonathan says PDP will monitor performance of elected officials

President Goodluck Jonathan says the PDP will vigorously monitor the performance of all officials elected on the party’s platform. Jonathan made the declaration on Saturday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

He said the PDP should be grateful to Nigerians for keeping faith with the party in its efforts to entrench democracy in Nigeria.
He said the party must also remain in the vanguard of transforming the country.
“I hereby commit to further deepening democracy in the country by continuing to uphold the rule of law and strengthening all democratic institutions.
“To this end, the PDP under my watch will take a very active interest in the performance of all officials elected on the platform of the PDP.
“Only in good works can the people reward us with their vote,’’ the President observed.
The President noted that every serious-minded political party must be financially independent to be able to function efficiently.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to demand accountability from all elected leaders.
“Only the financially independent political party can take hard but necessary decisions in the quest for national interest as well as enforce party discipline.
“ Our people must guard our democracy by holding both the political parties and elected leaders accountable.
Also speaking, Vice President and Chairman of the Fund Raising/ Building Committee, Namadi Sambo, said the project enjoyed tremendous support by members who are professionals.
He said that part of the 12 storey structure would be used as party offices while the remaining part would be rented out for commercial purposes.
Earlier, acting PDP National Chairman Haliru Bello  said by its performance in the just-concluded elections, the party had demonstrated that it is the party of choice for all Nigerians.
Bello promised that the party would consolidate on its mandate as well as improve internal party practices to reflect the new dawn of Nigeria’s democracy.
Senate President David Mark, FCT Minister  Bala Mohammed and past national chairmen of the PDP were among the dignitaries who attended the event.(NAN)
