Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) beefed up Security at Airport

Following the death of Osama Bin Labin, the most wanted man in the world for terrorist attack by the United States of America Special Forces, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Wednesday beefed up security at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos.

Disclosing this development to newsmen at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos, Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Richard Aisuebiogun said that the agency had improved on intelligence gathering relating to security issues.
“One of the things we have done now is to improve our covert level of security, that is intelligence gathering. There are a number of plain cloth security operatives around the airport.”
“We have also raised the level of security activities at the airport now, as a matter of fact, the DG of NCAA and I had a meeting before. We had another meeting with all the security agencies again where we directed that the security levels of all the airports must be raised immediately” he noted.
Mr. Aisuebiogun  however warned that anybody who was caught and found guilty for breaching security at the airport would go to jail, stressing that those that do not have any business whatsoever around the airport should stay away.
“Anybody found guilty will go to jail and that is the extent with which we want to send the message across to people that if you don’t have business around the airport you should not be there.”
“We are also trying to ensure that the agency charged with civil criminal management, is properly supported. So you will see at every key point at the airport now, the police have mounted more like a check point to do additional surveillance on the land side, while on the air site a number of security activities are being carried out. The airlines are now being encouraged to do their secondary screening in a more thorough manner”, he added.
He however appealed to Nigeria traveling publics that they should be ready to go through serious security check, adding that it was the only way to remove criminal elements amongst passengers.
“So we are appealing to every Nigerians traveling now that would have to go through a more thorough secondary screening when going through the airline screening process. All in attempt to ensure that we do not allow criminal elements to beat security layers at the airport”, he said.
