MAIDUGURI, Nigeria -- A federal spokesman says a bomb has exploded in a vote counting center in northeast Nigeria after the oil-rich nation cast ballots for its National Assembly.
A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency told The Associated Press late Saturday night that the explosion caused "serious casualties."
Spokesman Yushau Shuaib said the bomb apparently exploded as election workers gathered to tabulate the results of Saturday's National Assembly election. Shuaib said he had no other information.
A bomb detonated earlier Saturday at polling center near a market. Gunmen also set fire to a hotel and shot and killed a local politician.
