Muslim sect kills two ahead of presidential election in Nigeria

A radical Muslim sect in Nigeria has been blamed for killing two people and injuring five others, in the country''s northern state of Maiduguri, a day ahead of the country''s presidential election.
Michael Zuokumor commissioner of police of Borno state said, the assailants belonging to the Boko Haram group hide their weapons inside their garments before carrying out the attack today.

Boko Haram, is a controversial Nigerian militant Islamist group that seeks the imposition of Shariah law in the northern states of Nigeria.
Like the parliamentary election held last Saturday, Nigeria has closed its land borders from 10 pm today in order to forestall the influx of trouble making foreigners through its porous borders.
Before the beginning of the polls, the sect had threatened and carried out attacks on politicians and security operatives.
It also threatened to disrupt the elections and last Saturday, bomb explosions killed a policewoman at a polling centre but this did not affect the turnout of voters.
Saturday''s election would see President Goodluck Jonathan of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contesting against former military dictator, General Muhammadu Buhari of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), former anti-graft boss, Nuhu Ribadu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
